Research Associate (m/f/d) - Molecular Immunology
Full- or part-time | temporary (33 months) contract | Institute for Molecular Immunology
2 PhD positions (f/m/d) in the field of immune regulation in autoimmune liver diseases (ALD) Project summary: In two DFG-funded projects within the DFG-funded SFB Transregio initiative TRR179, we investigate the mechanisms determining the control of persistent infection with the Hepatitis B Virus. Persistent HBV infection in more than 250 million individuals worldwide causes chronic hepatitis and ensuing complications like liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. We aim to understand the molecular mechanisms by which virus-specific CD8 T cells are rendered dysfunctional through a recently published liver immune rheostat mechanism (Bosch et al. Nature 2024). In a second project, we aim to overcome the defect of conventional virus-specific CD8 T cells to eliminate virus-infected hepatocytes by harnessing a particular effector CD8 T cell function to execute auto-aggressive killing (Dudek et al. Nature 2021). The results of the projects are intended to be used as a starting point for developing novel immune therapies to combat chronic hepatitis B.
Your responsibilities:
- Investigation of tissue-derived molecular mechanisms regulating CD8 T cell effector functions in organs such as the liver
- Handling of cutting-edge techniques like multi-parametric flow cytometry, high-dimensional cytotoxicity assays, (phospho-)proteomics, MALDI-imaging, and preclinical mouse models of viral infections of the liver
Your profile
- University degree in natural or life sciences
- Preferably, hands-on experience with human or murine primary cells, cell culture and flow cytometry
- Preferably, expertise in immunology and experience in working with mice
- Team-player qualifications and good communication skills
We offer you:
- EGYM well pass, corporate benefits and discounts (e.g. Käfer), cafeteria, sports and cultural offers
- Free use of the library through a branch of the Munich City Library located in the building
- Working in the heart of Munich at Max-Weber-Platz with very good accessibility by public transport such as the subway, S-Bahn or tram
- Self-realization through a varied and technically demanding job with interdisciplinary cooperation
We look forward to your application!
