YOUR TASKS

  • Formative role in the Development and Integration of MTU’s Flying Fuel Cell (FFC) propulsion system; a hydrogen-electric, fuel-cell-based propulsion option for future climate-neutral aircraft
  • Mechanical Design of the FFC engine on propulsion system level
  • Integration of the FFC sub-systems and components (electrical powertrain, hydrogen fuel system, thermal management system, etc.) into a coherent aircraft engine, balancing various functional, performance and installation requirements
  • Close collaboration with the other FFC Engineering functions, yielding the globally optimized system
  • Collaboration in the frame of the FFC system development with the international FFC mechanical design team
  • Specification of propulsion system installation requirements
  • Support of certification and qualification of the FFC propulsion system including the associated safety analyses, in particular Zonal Safety Analysis
  • Preparation of the industrialization of the FFC propulsion system
  • Support of the technical Project Management and Chief Engineering from the preliminary design phase for new projects up to delivery of the future FFC engine
  • Contribution to the evolutionary improvement of system development processes and tools
  • Collaboration with external industry and research partners in the frame of FFC technology development
  • Coordination of national and European research projects in the context of the FFC

YOUR PROFILE

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or a comparable field
  • Profound Experience in the field of Mechanical Design and Integration in Aerospace, preferably in the field of aircraft systems or aircraft engines
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design feasibility studies
  • Knowledge of Aerospace Processes, Methods and Standards for System Development, Validation & Verification, Qualification and Certification, e.g. ARP4754, ARP4761, Do160
  • Preferably experience with integrating high-voltage systems and components for the aviation industry
  • Ability to dissect complex interdisciplinary challenges into a practical and tangible course of action
  • Scientific curiosity and creativity combined with an eye for what is feasible and essential when solving complex technical problems
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders
  • Very good knowledge of English
